Drunk Gummy Bears

Gummy Bears and Vodka

I found this recipe in the December issue of Cosmopolitan magazine and had to give it a shot! Cosmo is my secret girly guilty pleasure. It’s like the gummy candy of media but I still love it with its recycled, mostly impractical sex tips and weird bipolar mix of self-esteem promotion and body-shaming… I just can’t help it!

Cosmo makes these drunken bears in bulk, using 2 pounds of gummy bears and 1 liter of vodka. (In case you hadn’t realized it yet, I’m basically obsessed with vodka. My ancestors were Irish so it’s okay for me to be obsessed with booze.) A fun and easy to prepare party treat. Serve in shot glasses or just pile into a big bowl and let guests serve themselves. Be sure to warn your guests that these cutesy bears have a heck of kick!

  • Servings: 1 cup
  • Time: 5 minutes hands-on, plus soaking time
  • Difficulty: easy

Ingredients:

1 cup (6 oz) gummy bears

About 1 ¼ cup vodka (I used raspberry flavor but you could use unflavored or some other fruity flavor.)

Directions:

Place gummy bears in a bowl or glass measuring cup.

Pour in enough vodka to cover the bears, plus an additional ½ inch.

Cover with plastic wrap.

Allow to soak overnight or for at least 4 hours, stirring a couple times.

Pour off excess vodka and serve chilled. (Cosmo didn’t specify but you should definitely reserve the gummy bear-infused vodka for drinking. Who just dumps perfectly good booze down the drain?! Strain it through a fine wire sieve.)

If the bears end up a little too squishy or slimy for you, just pop them in the freezer for an hour or so. They will firm back up.
